Have you ever dreamed of escaping for a little while in another world? World of mysteries and magics? World different from ours, in which there is no black and white, no good and evil, no right and wrong? A world where you set the rules? World much more real than the movies or books? If at least for a moment you wished to visit such a place, where everything is so real, that you can reach out and touch it…Then come with us on a tour guide through Darkest Leipzig to discover his other face and wish for becoming a part of the adventure called Wave-Gotik-Treffen.
It is appropriate to note, that the Gothic flow could hardly been given a precise definition. This, perhaps, is the only musical-idealogical style, that is in a constant evolving, as life itself. As the world has room for all, regardless of skin color or religion, so in the Dark family there is a room for everyone. Here is the different interests point.
You can start your walk in the 19th Wave-Gotik-Treffen, held from 21st to May 24th 2010, at the Pagan village in Agra. Great pleasure makes the fact, that this year the village has grown, offering even more temptations and spectacles. There you can sit on the straw with mead in hand before the (now) two scenes at which folk groups charms with their fairy completely acoustic performances. To buy different handmaded souvenirs and pictures or take a look at the knightly duels played before your eyes, while among you walks Elves, Satires, Magaosnitsi, Princesses ...
All around Agra, in the greenery of the park are several campings and parkings, set up and 24 hours secured for your cosiness. A mandatory stop is the main hall in Agra, where the names of local and world-famous foreign groups are being alternated. ZEROMANCER (21.05.2010 Friday), DIARY OF DREAMS (23.05.2010 Sunday) and LACRIMOSA (23.05.2010 Sunday) - celebrating twenty years on stage, are only a small part of the bands, performing there for the four days of the festival.
Next is the hall, where you can shop at will, meet your favorite groups in passing, to talk personally with many artists hand-crafting their products or simply to enter the stands of some of the biggest German Gothic shops. With joy we may mark the fact, that for the sixth year our stand finds place at the festival's bazaar and in the hearts of people visited us there. Each year it's a great pleasure for us to meet in live with the people, who we know only by the e-mails or by Myspace, and talk about common interests.
Going out from Agra, we encounters the proverbial German punctuality and organization - the free in the 4 days (for the festival's guests) urban transport. Regular line 11, which for so many years has given us a ride - back and forward Leipzig (day and night), this year was supported not only by the additional wagons and line 11E (especially for WGT), but also by line 31 (Wave-Gotik-Treffen). This line was opened for the first time this year as a special route from Agra, through Kohlrabizirkus (a scene that draws in recent years the role of Parkbuhne as Gothic rock and metal center of the festival), to the central station - Promenaden, exerting tremendous assistance for the often tired to the extreme Goths, wandering through the numerous scenes of town.
This year not only the Pagan village had grewn, but the scenes inhabited by different events, were swelled to an incredible number - 44, so you will have to forgive us not mentioning in details each one of them, so will keep some of the magic in secret and you'll have something to find by yourself. One of the following stops on the road to the center is the emblematic WERK II - an old factory which is currently sheltering the alternative rock, post-punk and new wave bands like UNTOTEN (21.05.2010 Friday), CHAMELEONSVOX (22.05.2010 Saturday), DEAD UNITED ( 05/24/2010 Monday) and others.
As already mentioned, the hall: Kohlrabizirkus, we cannot allowed to overlook some great names performing worthy there, CREMATORY (21.05.2010 Friday), LEAVES EYES (21.05.2010 Friday) and last but not least MOONSPELL (22.05.2010 Saturday) to which (not hiding) we have a particularly warm feelings and watch with great pleasure in every given occasion. Our photographer had a great opportunity to meet them in person at their official autograph-session, with free access for all guests at the festival in Cinestar - the cinema in downtown Leipzig. Where along the distributing autographs bands, where also the already became a tradition - films screenings.
From there we descend to the center, where fans of the Middle Ages can pop in Moritzbastei or to enter it's dungeon where the DJ-s plays music among the dark hours of the night. To watch spectacular operas such as "GISELLE" (Saturday 05/22/2010) and "LA TRAVIATA" (24/05/2010 Monday) at the Opera or listen ALCEST (22.05.2010 Saturday) and ARCANA (23.05.2010 Sunday) in the Schauspielhaus. Or the chance to stops in clubs like Dark Flower for more DJ-mixes or at Sixtina to attend the premiere of the book SCHILLERNDES DUNKEL (Dazzling Darkness). From the cover immediately grabs us the beautiful Madame DeSolitude, which to our great pride, is wearing the last year's award from our Photo Contest to celebrate our 5th anniversary at WGT. Inspired by the 20th anniversary of the Wave-Gotik-Treffen, SCHILLERNDES DUNKEL covers the whole Dark culture including over 800 stunning photographs and illustrations.
These are just a few of the sites and spectacles, which you could enjoy at the 19th Wave-Gotik-Treffen. No need to say, that we expect next year with great anticipation. Bearing in mind, that next year is the festival's 20th anniversary, is even more useless to say, that this event - the largest Gothic festival in the world, surely will offer a lot of new surprises which will caused our breath stopping .. . At the end we'll have just one - next year to go back home at Wave-Gotik-Treffen to our Dark multinational family.
